Art therapists are mental health professionals who use visual art-making, drama, dance, play and movement to improve the physical, mental and emotional well-being of their clients. This modality is well suited to those clients who may not be able to verbalise their feelings either due to the sense that they are unspeakable or because of other developmental or cognitive conditions. Arts therapists provide therapeutic interventions through drawing, painting, sculpture and sand play for mental health diagnoses, wellbeing and developmental disorders. Arts therapists can assist people to develop interpersonal skills, manage behaviour, reduce stress, increase self-esteem, resolve conflicts and achieve insights.
